Dance Trophy for Sasha!

Congratulations to Alexandra on her incredible success in the recent lyrical dance competition! Her hard work and dedication have truly paid off, and we are so proud to see her proudly displaying her well-deserved trophy.

We have had lots of success for Irish dancers over the year, but this style is new to me. For those of us unfamiliar, lyrical dance is a beautiful and expressive style that combines the fluidity of ballet with the powerful emotions of contemporary dance. Performers tell a story through their movements, interpreting music with grace and precision, making it both an artistic and athletic achievement.

Well done, Sasha —you’ve inspired us all with your talent and passion!

Tennis Lessons

The children have been really enjoying some very active and enjoyable tennis lessons with Coach Deirdre. It has proven to be an inclusive way for all our children to get stay fit and healthy. The children are really developing their skills, and we have seen a rise in interest in playing tennis during break and lunchtimes. A big thank you to ‘Tennis Ireland,’ for contributing to the funding of this.

What our children thought about the tennis lessons -

Pupil voice in 3rd and 4th class:

Calum: “ I love going outside everyTuesday morning, we get to play
1 v 1, that is one person against another one, you get a different
partner each time.”
George: “ It is fun to learn outside the classroom, I am learning skills I
didn’t know and I am learning how to be good at tennis. Tuesdays
are great now!”
Robyn: “ I like the stategies to hit the ball using all the sports
movements we are learning. I love hitting it back and forth to my
opposition.”
Cian: “ I love spending time outside with my friends, we have lots of
challenges and we compete against other partners.”
Lily: “ I like our tennis coach because she does really fun games and I
learnt lots of new skills.”
Jordan: “ I like tennis because its active and a good sport to play with
friends.”

Glenmore Legend

Congratulations to our very own Thomas, who was recently rewarded for his role as coach and sportsperson at Glenore. He has great pride in his trophies.

Boher Teams were back in action in October with the beginning of the Cumann na mBunscol competitions for 2024-25 school year. Our boys had a tough run out against local schools in a very competitive blitz. We had a wonderfully successful start from the girls, with progress to the semi-finals of the Corn Setanta secured for later in the month.

At Boher NS, we are committed to the physical activity, wellbeing, and happiness of our students. Throughout the 2023-24 school year, we provided numerous opportunities for our children to engage in a wide variety of sports and activities, both within and outside of school. These experiences are essential for fostering a healthy and active lifestyle, as well as promoting teamwork and personal growth.

This year we will be continuing this commitment to sports by setting up an Active schools committee and working towards an Active Flag to celebrate the commitment the children show towards sporting achievement and hopefully developing lifelong positive attitudes to good health and physical fitness.

In 2023-24 students had the chance to participate in diverse sports including yoga, swimming, tennis, Gaelic football, rugby, camogie, soccer, and skipping. These activities were designed to cater to different interests and skill levels, ensuring that every child could find something they enjoyed and suited them.

Moreover, teams from our school proudly participated in several prestigious sports competitions. We took part in the Jim Savage athletics competition at Glenmore, where our students showcased their talents. Additionally, our teams competed in the Cumann na mBunscol competitions for football and camogie, as well as a soccer blitz with the FAI. We were fortunate to have a very skilful girls’ team this year who found success in June by lifting the Scaith Uí Choindealbhán.

These events not only provided our students with the thrill of competition but also the invaluable experience of representing their school and working together towards common goals. We believe that these opportunities contribute significantly to the overall development and happiness of our students, and we are committed to continuing this tradition of excellence in physical education and sports.
